Volunteer

There are many ways to make a difference.

Improving literacy can make a big difference in someone’s life. And if tutoring isn’t right for you, there are other ways to help LVSC. Whatever your skill set, we have a role for you.

LVSC's success depends on many talented and dedicated volunteers who assist our small staff in delivering programs and running our organization. If you have spare time and are interested in volunteering, you can learn more by reviewing the opportunities below and registering to help. We look forward to hearing from you!

Volunteer Opportunities

Board of Trustee Member

Our Trustees provide direction and guidance to the LVSC team, ensuring our resources are focused where we can do the most good. As a Trustee, you will help to steer the organization, participate in Board Committees such as Finance or Outreach, and represent LVSC at events. This is great opportunity to hone your leadership skills while sharing your professional knowledge with the nonprofit community.

Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per month.

Fundraising and Events Volunteer

Do you like planning and hosting parties? The LVSC community gets together several times a year to celebrate successes, share common experiences, and raise funds to keep our programs thriving. Our various Events Committees plan the Community Spelling Bee, Brunch & Silent Auction, Golf Fore Literacy and Library Soiree fundraisers, as well as various student and tutor events throughout the year. We'd love your help with planning and running these events.

Time Commitment: 1 to 15 hours, depending on the event and your availability.

Marketing/Outreach Volunteer

Improving literacy in Somerset County requires several key ingredients - students who want to learn; volunteers who want to be tutors; and generous supporters who fund our programs. If you have experience in Marketing, Outreach or Social Media, we'd be excited to hear from you.

Time Commitment: 1 to 15 hours, depending on the project and your availability.

Administrative Volunteer

Do you like to fold letters and stuff envelopes? Several times throughout the year we gather around a table to prepare large mailings. It's a fun opportunity to socialize and you'll leave with a feeling of accomplishment. Fold, stuff and stamp!

Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours per project.

Database Entry and Management

Keeping our records up to date; maintaining our fundraising database; and sending regular communications to all of our supporters. These are essential activities which keep LVSC running efficiently, but it all takes time.  Our small, dedicated staff could use an extra hand -- can you help us out?

Time Commitment: 2 hours per week.

Do You Have Other Unique Talents?

We have many ad hoc projects and could benefit from your expertise. For example, we are always looking for help with:

  • Photography
  • Videography
  • Graphic Design
  • Grant Writing

Time Commitment: You tell us how much time you can spend!
