2013 LVSC Board of Trustees

The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County (LVSC) is to promote literacy in the community through student-centered tutoring and programs for low-literacy adults.

LVSC is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization accredited by ProLiteracy America. We are located in Bridgewater, N. J. and serve communities in Somerset County and the surrounding area. We recruit and train volunteer tutors who help adult students needing to improve their reading, writing, and conversational English. Our services enable students to obtain new jobs, get better paying jobs, become US citizens, help their children with school work, continue their education, and lead more productive lives.

Since 1981, LVSC  has been providing free, one-to-one and small group tutoring to functionally illiterate adults through a network of volunteers trained in Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages.  We offer ESL classes through a collaboration with Spotlight Learning.  We are able to provide our tutoring and English conversation groups through a long-standing relationship with the Somerst County Library System who provide the space and resources used by our tutors and students.

Watch the video below to hear students and tutors talk about their experiences with LVSC.
